Basket Weaving Crafternoon!

OUR BASKET WEAVING CRAFTERNOON IS BACK!

Since our first attempt to learn this traditional craft was cancelled, we've finally locked in a date! Sunday 19th March 2-4pm in the Hamilton Community Pocket Garden- yay!

The pocket garden behind the NAB has a snazzy new shelter where we will gather to get our craft on. We'll be surrounded by free produce and herbs grown by hard-working volunteers, and can enjoy the amazing mural backdrop by local artists Jasmine Mansbridge and Roger Edwards. If you'd like you could also bring along an old book and leave it in the free book exchange library or take one to read yourself!

Talented local lasy Helen Henry will tell us how to select and prepare certain grasses for weaving, how to up-cycle fabric for weaving or how to use ready-made fibres like wool, raffia and rattan. Helen will show us how to use a coiling technique to each build a miniature woven vessel that can be used as a catch-all dish or decorative bowl. No crafty experience necessary as this workshop is suitable for beginners!

Meet creative local people, use your hands to create something from scratch and learn a sustainable new craft that has been practiced for thousands of years. It's relaxing, therapeutic and good for the soul- a perfect way to spend Sunday arvo!

$25 per person including all tools, materials and tuition. Half of the funds gathered will go towards the Community Garden itself because it's an awesome initiative for the whole community :)
