Gelli Printing Crafternoon

EXCITING NEWS... we're collaborating with multi-talented artist and art educator, Britt Gow, for a special Crafternoon this November!

On Sunday 6th we will take over the art room at Hamilton Institute of Rural Learning for a (hopefully) sunny Crafternoon learning a unique print-making technique: gelli printing.

Gelli printing is monoprinting using a gelatin plate, and though it sounds quite fancy and specialist, it can be done using everyday items at home once you have the know-how. Hello messy play dates and DIY Xmas gifts!

The gelatin plate is a soft and malleable surface that can hold the detailed impressions that you make on it with brushes, botanical materials, stencils, masks and stamps.

In this workshop you will learn how to make your own gelatin plate and use it to create unique, layered artworks that can be framed or used as backgrounds for multimedia, card creation or cut into collages.

Britt is an accomplished printmaker from nearby Hawkesdale - you may have seen her work in exhibitions and galleries across South West Vic/the Grampians, or you *might* recognise her woodgrain and lino cut prints of the Bandicoots that call this workshop venue home.

Britt loves to create works inspired by the patterns and textures found in nature and our Crafternoon is no different - whether you incorporate flowers and foliage or other textures and hand-cut shapes into your prints, they're sure to be lovely!

This is a spontaneous, unpredictable workshop where you need zero creative skills to make something totally unique and beautiful. All abilities and ages welcome!

The workshop is $65 pp including all tools, materials and guidance required to make 8-10 different artworks ready to frame!

We will have unlimited hot drinks (famous tea selection box in tow), citrus and mint-infused chilled water, and light nibbles to share (fruit, fromage and a few sweet treats).

Tickets are limited to allow plenty of 1:1 tuition time and ample space for all our lovely art-making, so if you're keen to come, don't leave it until the last minute to book!

Keep an eye on the @mycrafternoons Instagram or the Facebook Event for inspiration or check out some of the work created by Britt's previous students below!
