The Crafty Kind

If you're a crafty kind of person who values creativity, and also a kind-hearted soul who wants our community to feel like "we've got you", our crowd-sourced tax-deductible community fund could be for you!

What is the Crafty Kind Fund?

The Crafty Kind Fund is a little pay-it-forward pot that helps cover spots at future Crafternoons for people who might not be able to afford a ticket right now. It’s one small way to make our workshops more accessible and keep kindness flowing quietly in the background, like shouting someone their next coffee... but for us, it's their next Crafternoon!

How does it work?

Tax-deductible contributions via the Australia Cultural Fund are used to fully cover reserved places at Crafternoons for folks who put their hand up or are nominated by someone who cares about them. We may also contribute to the fund from ticket sales or waive some of the workshop fee if required to fully cover someone's place.

Who can use the fund?

Anyone who feels that cost is a barrier at the moment is welcome to enquire about a funded spot. That might be you, a friend, a carer, a student, a parent, or anyone doing it a bit tough financially who would benefit from some creative time out.

How do I ask for a funded spot?

It’s simple: just email to mycrafternoons@gmail.com. You don’t need to write essays or provide proof of financial hardship, this is a trust-based system so just telling us a bit about yourself or the person you think needs monetary support to attend a Crafternoon is enough, alongside a best contact email.

Can I nominate someone else?

Yes, absolutely. If you know someone who would love to attend an upcoming Crafternoon but can’t stretch to a ticket right now, you’re welcome to nominate them. Just email us with their name, best contact and a little context, and we’ll reach out directly. You can choose to remain anonymous or we can tell them which person had them in mind.

Is it anonymous?

Yes. Donors and recipients are not publicised unless you choose to publish your name on the ACF portal. We won’t announce who has contributed, how much My Crafternoons is also subsidising a spot, or who is using a funded place. Someone whose place was funded by The Crafty Kind may choose to disclose or share their gratitude - it's entirely up to them. We may also share occasional updates on how many spots have been covered, but never with names.

How can I contribute to the fund?

Make a donation via the Australian Cultural Fund crowd-funding platform - it goes straight into our Crafty Kind Fund and anything over $2 is tax-deductible!

Is there a minimum or set amount to give?

No. You’re welcome to give a little or a lot – it all adds up. Even a small contribution can help cover part of a spot, and once there’s enough in the pot we can release another fully funded place. We may choose to add additional contributions ourselves or waive some of the workshop fee if there's a request for a spot before there's enough in the pot.

Will my contribution be tax deductible?

YES! Anything over $2 is tax-deductible, so can be claimed as a charitable donation and thus enable a deduction in your tax return. There are no fees with the ACF, but note that we do pay tax on any contributions to this fund as though it's normal assessable income, so you may like to consider covering this when chosing your donation amount.

Are there limits on how often someone can use the fund?

Because the fund depends on community contributions and places at My Crafternoons are limited, we may need to cap how many funded spots one person can access in a year so we can share the kindness around. If demand is high, we’ll prioritise people who haven’t had a funded place before.

What happens if a funded person can’t make it?

Life happens. If someone using a funded spot can’t attend, we’ll do our best to offer that place to another person on the list, or keep their ticket price in the post to roll it forwards to another person for a future Crafternoon.

How will I know the fund is making a difference?

Now and then we’ll share updates like “This year, the Crafty Kind Fund helped cover # spots at My Crafternoons workshops.” No names and no stories that aren’t ours to tell – just a little glimpse of the impact you’re helping create. Thank you for helping to bring the crafty magic to people in our community who may need it the most. We knew you were the crafty kind ;)

The Crafty Kind Fund is supported through the Australian Cultural Fund, a dedicated fundraising platform for Australian artists and arts organisations, operated by the Australian Government's principal arts investment body, Creative Australia.
