Intro to Felting Crafternoon
Come and discover the fascinating world of felt in this beginner-friendly Intro to Felting Crafternoon on Sunday 27th May from 2-5pm!
We're delighted to have talented felt artist Lucy Stocks coming up from Portland to run this workshop and share her skills with our group of creative locals.
Originally from Russia, where felting is a traditional craft, Lucy brings many years of experience to our workshop and demonstrates the fantastic possibilities of creating wonderful surface designs using different techniques. She regularly runs workshops in Portland and likes experimenting with new tools and ideas, and we’re so excited to have her run a workshop!
In this workshop we'll learn how to work with raw wool or use shop-bought fibres to create amazingly versatile textural shapes. Felt is basically a non-woven fabric made from entangled wool fibres. Each fiber is covered with overlapping scales that relax and open up when they encounter warm, soapy water.
Lucy will show us how to combine colours to effectively "paint" with felt, and to use warm soapy water and a little magic to create flat sheets of felt, felted balls, cords and simple flowers. These can easily be turned into jewellery, home decor and soft furnishings, useful little items like purses, mobile phone covers and place mats, and even wearable art like slippers, hats and shawls! We'll learn how to join, cut, shape and manipulate felt while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the felting process.
Imagine crafting a cute little sunglasses case embellished with felt flowers, making felt "flowers" that will never wilt, or a tiny framed felt abstract “painting”… we can’t wait to get our creative juices flowing and see what we leave with!
This is a hands-on workshop suitable for people with no or very little experience in felting, and is a perfect activity for people who enjoy simple, tactile, relaxing crafts.
We need a good three hours to cover all techniques, create a few felt items to take-away and to enjoy tea/coffee and delicious nibbles in the beautiful HIRL complex in Hamilton, so the workshop runs from 2-5pm.
The workshop costs $70 including all tools, materials and tuition plus drinks and afternoon tea.
Places for this workshop are limited to a fairly small group to allow for one-on-one help and plenty of space at your creation station.
If you'd like to come along simply email email@example.com and you’ll be given details on how to pay and finalise your booking.
If something comes up and you need to cancel you can do so up to 48 hours in advance, later than that and it's non-refundable but you're welcome to send a friend along in your place!
Love Stacey and Lucy :)
