Our Intro to Crochet workshop this week was just the thing we all needed to finally learn to wield a crochet hook and get crafting!

Our band of happy crafters were all beginners when it came to crochet, but with the patient guidance of our tutor Cindy, some printed tutorials to take home and by helping each other, we all managed to master the basic of crochet. This includes holding the hook and yarn correctly, starting with a slip knot, keeping tension, making a foundation chain and using treble stitch (which American's call double just to confuse matters) to add rows.

Cindy also taught those of us who nearly finished just how to leave a button hole, ready for us to finish off our mug cosies with a button or pom pom. I've got to be honest, I myself was probably the slowest learner, especially since I was easily distracted by Cindy's gorgeous baby Marlee!

Our party were well sustained by nibbles from the Grange Restaurant including pork belly, mini dim sims and cheese/dip platters, and we had a wonderful evening making new friends.

Everyone vowed to practice their crochet skills and finish their mug cosies at home, even requesting a follow-up session which it's likely we will do in future, since it seems the ability to crochet is highly coveted!

Next month's Crafternoon is a double-whammy: learning to make paper from scratch with Susan from Byron Bay's Born In Paper, then making hand-bound journals with her beautiful sheets of handmade loveliness.

July's workshop will soon be revealed too- watch this space!
