Fun with Felt Crafternoon!

This month we welcome back Lucy Stocks, a passionate and experienced felt artist who ran our fabulous “Intro to Felting” workshop last May! Felting is a traditional craft in Lucy’s native Russia, but over many years of experimentation with modern tools and techniques, Lucy has developed the ability to create a huge range of surface designs, finishes and structures from slippers and wraps to flowers, vessels and hats. Lucy regularly runs workshops along the south coast and this will be the second time we’ve enticed her to Hamilton to run a Crafternoon!

In this relaxed afternoon you will learn all about the process of creating and manipulating felt, including using the tools of the trade, prefelts, layering fleece, nunofelting, the “resist” method and adding decorations to your creation. Even though it sounds complex, felt is actually super simple to create, so this workshop is suitable for absolute beginners. With fibres, soapy water and a little magic, you will create sheets and shapes from entangled wool fibres to created felt; a super versatile non-woven fabric that is gloriously tactile and colourful. You will leave with your own bespoke felt item, lovingly made by hand and for whatever use you’d like it for! You can create a cute little coin purse, a phone pouch or a soft storage case, even an ipad case if you’re quite industrious in your felt creation! Flexible storage cases are so handy, I store my sunglasses, earphones and sanitary items in different little pouches in my bag, and it makes me feel very Marie Kondo because they’re both useful AND spark joy :) We need a good three hours to cover all techniques, create our felt items and to enjoy tea/coffee and delicious nibbles in the beautiful HIRL complex. Tickets are $70 per person including all tools, materials and tuition plus hot drinks and sweet treats, not to mention great company, good vibes, and the opportunity to learn from a passionate felting guru! Bookings are made online via Trybooking: https://www.trybooking.com/BCSSA. The Facebook event is HERE where we will be sharing sneak peeks and inspiring images of this craft, so make sure you click “Interested” (or hopefully “Attending”) to stay in the loop! Places for this workshop are limited to a fairly small group to allow for one-on-one help and plenty of space at your creation station, so please don’t leave it too late to book your spot. If something comes up and you need to cancel you can do so up to 48 hours in advance, later than that and it's non-refundable but you're welcome to send a friend along in your place! Cheers, Stacey and Lucy :)
