Kokedama Crafternoon

November 6, 2018

We're going to spend a creative morning soaking up the summer vibes at the hidden gem that is Hamilton's Community Pocket Garden, making moss-wrapped kokedamas

This time of year makes us want to be out in the garden or at least soaking up the beautiful blooms and enjoying mother earth more than we did while we were hibernating over winter. Kokedamas have been popping up in lots of areas of my life recently, so we're taking it as a sign that we're meant to revisit these furry friends, get our hands dirty and create something simple that's a little bit lovely.

Kokedamas are Japanese hanging moss balls, consisting of a plant that's bound into a sphere. They are designed either to be displayed on a decorative saucer, or hanging from a hook or branch. They look tricky to make but they're easy peasy once you get the 'hang' of it! Here are some pics from the kokedama workshop we ran in 2016.

So, in a nutshell:

WHAT IS THE CRAFTERNOON?

A fun 2-hour Kokedama-Making Workshop in which you'll design and create your very own hanging succulent in a decorative little mossy package.

WHEN IS IT?

Sat 24th Nov 2018, from 11am to approx. 1pm

WHERE ARE WE CREATING?

Hamilton Community Pocket Garden, Corriedale Lane, Hamilton VIC (behind Trevs/Nab). It's down the laneway between Trev's and the Grand Central Hotel just behind NAB. Plenty of parking in the huge carpark off Lonsdale Street (behind IGA).

WHO CAN COME?

Anyone! Even kids can get involved with this one, but they'd need a grown-up to help with a couple of the fiddly parts.

HOW MUCH IS IT?

$40 per person including everything

WHAT YOU'LL RECEIVE

All materials including a range of succulents to choose from, special soil and moss, all tools and materials for binding plus tips on decorative elements and how to display and care for your new baby! The workshop also includes refreshments and morning tea nibbles to share.

WHAT DO I BRING?

Just wear comfy clothes that you don't mind if they get a little dirty! Also, a reusable bag, box or tupperware to transport your creation home in might be handy if it's still a little damp by the time you leave.

HOW DO I BOOK IN?

We've finally embraced online ticketing, so simply buy your ticket via THIS LINK.
