We LOVE this time of year, when Christmas is around the corner and the craft shops are bursting with festive fabric and crafty kits and decorations! We've been stock-piling festive fabric, lovely ribbon and all sorts of sparkly and Christmassy bits for our next Crafternoon... be excited!

This year we're having a festive party after-hours in Dunkeld's newest cafe - a beautiful, timber-clad, light-filled space with amazing views of the Grampian mountains; Koopmans Dunkeld! 🎄

Here we will enjoy a delicious grazing table and a barista-made hot drink or chilled mocktail whilst creating our own bespoke Christmas Stockings!

We have pre-made cotton stockings so all you need to do is add your own touches- it's so easy that this Crafternoons is suitable for absolute beginners, and kids over 10.

We will have lots of festive fabric, sequins, ribbons, lace, fabric paints, buttons and adhesive elements - even Christmas pegs from which to clip paper cut-outs or bunting... the options are endless!

Coleraine's newest cafe; The Catching Pen, proved to be the perfect spot for our afternoon of sewing for our lovely relaxed Scrunchie Crafternoon. Hayley made us feel very at home as we took over the half of the cafe used as a community space, nestled in with great tunes and delicious hot drinks, platters of homemade slices and copious crafty materials!

The lovely ladies who joined us picked out their favourite fabrics, hand-stitched their first scrunchie over relaxed chatter, then learnt how to make the pattern for, cut and sew different types of bows. We took things up a notch for other scrunchies, using sewing machines to wizz through them like a happy little sweat shop fuelled by chai lattes and brownies.

The creations made were simply lovely - from crushed velvet and silk to cotton and organza filled with sparkles, they were as unique as the ladies who stitched them. We used a lot of recycled material from vintage dresses, pre-loved clothing and bed-linen, plus some new fabric and u...

Our next monthly craft workshop is going to be at the Catching Pen Cafe in Coleraine, a wonderful light-filled, rustic cafe ran by some lovely local ladies who are welcoming us in for a special Crafternoon!

We'll be making our own hair accessories to go around buns and ponytails, both with and without cute bows, learning simple hand-stitching techniques.

We'll use both new and upcycled fabrics (scrunchies make great eco-friendly gifts) and you will make around 3 scrunchies in the workshop to take home. Feel free to bring along your own fabric or old clothing from which to craft your new creations if you wish too!

We'll also have some freshly-baked sweet treats by the talented bakers at The Catching Pen and everyone can order a delicious hot drink of their choice... scrunchies AND munchies!

Tickets are $35 including all materials, tuition and refreshments, everyone welcome whether you're a crafty novice or a pro. This one is even suitable for teens who can safely wield a needle!

Keep...

We are DELIGHTED to be celebrating a special milestone in late 2019... it's our 5th Birthday!

Time FLIES when you're having fun, and we've been running monthly creative workshops around the Greater Hamilton region for a whopping 5 YEARS  - crazy!

Since our first ever pom-pom bouquet workshop in August 2013 we've held over 50 monthly workshops.

From making DIY projects like wreaths and terrariums to honing creative skills like crochet and painting, we've been connecting lovely locals, creative types and makers. We've hand-made gifts and whipped up bespoke homewares, we've even shook our own cocktails and fired our own pizzas. Most have only ran once, and a couple have been so well-loved we've put a new twist on them and brought them to the masses again - check out the full list HERE!

It's been BLOODY WONDERFUL, and it's time we celebrated with a Birthday-themed crafty get-together!

We're taking over the lovely Jack & Jude's for a couple of hours of sociable creativity on Sunday 22nd...

A HUGE thank you to this month's guest artist; Alyshia Bensch from Studio Marlo, for sharing with our group of happy crafters some of her tips and tricks for creating bespoke mixed media collages.

Alyshia shared with us beautiful examples of her own work, some inspiring books and resources on collaging, heaps of materials and a little know-how, and guided everyone through the process when they needed advice.

We delved deep into mountains of craft supplies; papers, card, foil, paint swatches, paper punches, magazines, books, paint pens, markers, acrylic and watercolour paints, transfers, glues and sealant... and the artworks produced were amazing!

Fuelled by sweet treats and unlimited tea and coffee, we nestled into the wonderful train station-turned-art space; Off The Rails in Dunkeld, sang along to "Totally Stress Free" (on Spotify: would recommend) and had a glorious afternoon.

Check out some pics from the day- thanks to all of the lovely ladies who booked in, you were a great bunch!

This month we welcome back Lucy Stocks, a passionate and experienced felt artist who ran our fabulous “Intro to Felting” workshop last May!

Felting is a traditional craft in Lucy’s native Russia, but over many years of experimentation with modern tools and techniques, Lucy has developed the ability to create a huge range of surface designs, finishes and structures from slippers and wraps to flowers, vessels and hats. Lucy regularly runs workshops along the south coast and this will be the second time we’ve enticed her to Hamilton to run a Crafternoon!

In this relaxed afternoon you will learn all about the process of creating and manipulating felt, including using the tools of the trade, prefelts, layering fleece, nunofelting, the “resist” method and adding decorations to your creation.

Even though it sounds complex, felt is actually super simple to create, so this workshop is suitable for absolute beginners. With fibres, soapy water and a little magic, you will create sheets and shape...

After needing to reschedule, we're finally collaborating with local artist Alyshia Bensch, aka Studio Marlo, to create beautiful Mixed Media Collages this July!

Alyshia is a multidisciplinary artist, with a love of illustration, design and the natural world. She has a BA of creative arts, and is almost finished her MA of art therapy, and is passionate about the power of creativity, especially in how if affects us whole-heartedly; mind, body and soul. We can't WAIT to finally be collaborating for a Crafternoon, as Alyshia really is an inspiring human who is able to make creativity flow in even the most "non-creative" person. As tutor, Alyshia will guide you through the process of selecting colours and shapes, creating layers and adding details, finding inspiration from the natural environment.

On Sunday 7 July from 1-4pm, the cute converted railway station at the foot of the Grampians; Off the Rails Dunkeld, will be filled with colourful paper, paints, pens and magazines... a multitude...

So long 2018... HELLO 2019 and a whole new year of awesome Crafternoons!

We've had a ripper year of workshops, including awesome afternoons and evenings getting to grips with:

- Wool Spinning and Dyeing

Wood-fired Pizzas (that counts as crafting, right?)

- Kombucha

- Jasmine Mansbridge-inspired Paintings

- Felted Flowers

- Crochet Bowls

- Leather Feather Earrings

- Cocktails (that totally counts as a craft too)

- Watercolour Floral Paintings

- & Personalised Baubles!

We're kicking off a brand new year with a pretty simple, but simply pretty workshop learning some basic botanical illustration techniques. Even if you've never drawn a flower or a leaf before in your life, and feel about as comfortable wielding a coloured pencil as you do holding a wand, you will absolutely be able to nail this workshop!

We will learn to draw some simple flowers, leaves and botanical elements, and combine them to fill an invisible outline of a letter or a shape of your choice. Whether it's the first initia...

FINALLY TIME FOR A FESTIVE CRAFTERNOON CHRISTMAS PARTY!!!

OK I will try to contain my excitement, but needless to say I have been bursting at the seams to release details on this Crafternoon workshop, since it involves a triad of my favourite festive things:

1) Crafting - a set of 4 bespoke Christmas Baubles filled with sparkles and snow...

2) Drinking - delicious local Bubbles...

3) Michael Bublé*!

*Michael has a full calendar at this time of year so will not be able to physically join us, though we will have his Christmas back catalogue filling Pierrepoint Cellar Door with Christmas cheer, and he sends his love.

Oh ho ho YES folks, we're combining Baubles, Bubbles and Bublé at the fabulous Pierrepoint Winery and Cellar Door for this year's Christmas Crafternoon, and it's going to be DELIGHTFUL.

The lovely folks at Pierrepoint are building us a cheese-based grazing table (it's Christmas, there has to be cheese) and everyone who books in will receive a free drink on arrival. Their s...

We're going to spend a creative morning soaking up the summer vibes at the hidden gem that is Hamilton's Community Pocket Garden, making moss-wrapped kokedamas

This time of year makes us want to be out in the garden or at least soaking up the beautiful blooms and enjoying mother earth more than we did while we were hibernating over winter. Kokedamas have been popping up in lots of areas of my life recently, so we're taking it as a sign that we're meant to revisit these furry friends, get our hands dirty and create something simple that's a little bit lovely.

Kokedamas are Japanese hanging moss balls, consisting of a plant that's bound into a sphere. They are designed either to be displayed on a decorative saucer, or hanging from a hook or branch. They look tricky to make but they're easy peasy once you get the 'hang' of it! Here are some pics from the kokedama workshop we ran in 2016.

So, in a nutshell:

WHAT IS THE CRAFTERNOON?

A fun 2-hour Kokedama-Making Workshop in which you'll design...
